Location: Stevenage (2-3 days per week onsite; could be higher initially)
Duration: 6 months
Rate: £50 p/h Umbrella

Overview
Fantastic opportunity for an Interconnects Design Engineer to work within a growing Interconnects team designing bespoke electrical interconnects/cables suitable for the transmission of power, signal and data within and between subsystems in complex products.
You'll interpret sub-system requirements and generate electrical schematics and cable design definitions (Microsoft Visio & HarnWare work packages). The role also includes investigating cable issues, developing solutions, supporting manufacturing with build issues, and supporting functional and environmental product trials.
Responsibilities:
- Interpret sub-system requirements and generate electrical schematics and cable design definitions (Visio & HarnWare work packages)
- Investigate a full range of cable problems/issues and develop solutions (individually or within a project team)
- Support manufacturing to resolve build/manufacturing issues
- Support functional and environmental product trials
- Contribute within a multi-disciplinary team and support delivery of technically advanced projects/products
Skillset/experience required:
- Demonstrable experience in cable/harness/interconnects design
- Minimum 2 years' experience using Visio and related tools (HarnWare)
- Ability to define, deploy and refine processes/best practices within Visio/HarnWare (electrical topology, wiring schematics, 2D manufacturing drawings, processes/standards)
- Thorough understanding of product data management and change management (Windchill or similar)
- Ability to design cable assemblies to electrical constraints (current, screening, signal types, volt drop, EMC, environmental requirements)
- Appreciation of cable assembly production/process engineering
- Desirable: military Defence Standards experience and working knowledge of D38999 connectors (cable harness manufacture)
- Ideally Degree/HND/HNC qualified (or equivalent experience) in Interconnects/Harness Design & Development
- Ability to lead interconnects/harness design work packages and work effectively in multi-disciplinary teams
- Strong written/verbal communication; able to produce clear engineering documentation
- Experience engaging/developing suppliers across internal/external teams
- Awareness of cultural differences and ability to adapt accordingly
